On assignment for Time Magazine in the late 80s, at Riverside Race Track. I got to ride along with Gene, in the car, as he drove at least 180 mph. A squirrel suddenly appeared, which caused Gene to slam on the brakes, desperately trying not to kill it. He was practicing for the Long Beach Formula One Celebrity Grand Prix. Photographing Gene is an experience I’ll never forget.
